THE Orb300: IT’S A GAME CHANGER

The Orb300 ticks all the boxes. It’s made using 2nd life EV batteries, and has a staggering 300kWh of storage. It’s powerful three phase 88kVA inverter means it can handle demanding loads and enables super fast charging times. However, batteries are not generator replacements and they need to be recharged somehow and I’ve always felt the optics are all wrong when diesel or even HVO generators are used to charge batteries. The Orb300 is different. From 2025, for the first time ever, you will be able to recharge the battery using any EV car charging station. With super fast 6 hour charging times on a 50kW DC car charger, we’re hoping our clients will find it easier to recharge using a local EV charging station, than a generator.

2ND LIFE TESLA BATTERIES

Inside the Orb300 are four complete 2nd life Tesla car batteries, each stacked one on top of the other, giving it the greatest storage of any portable battery unit, in this case a total usable storage capacity of 300kWh. Weighing in at 3,400kg, the Orb300 is certainly no pushover, but considering it’s nearest rival comes in a shipping container, this road tow unit is nothing other than remarkable.

POWERFUL 88KVA INVERTER

With it’s four 22kW inverters the Orb300 is capable of delivering 88kVA three phase or 29kVA single phase power. An assortment of power sockets are designed to provide for every situation, with 125amp, 63amp & 32amp three phase to 32amp & 16amp single phase sockets available for easy plug and go. If more power sockets are required, we have distro boxes of all sizes available to hire. What’s more, there’s a designated distro box storage area on the trailer, so you’re never be in a situation where the distro’s been left behind or put on the wrong vehicle.

SUPER FAST 3 phase CHARGING TIMES

Recharging via a local mains power supply should always be your first option for recharging your batteries, but if you have to use a generator, ideally use one that’s already running and with enough spare capacity, at least this way the generator will be running more efficiently whist the battery’s plugged in.

Even if you have to fire up a generator, with our super fast charging times and 300kWh of storage, you know the generator can be quickly turned off, enabling many many hours of silent, emission free power before needing to be turned back on again. We also know generators don’t like charging single phase battery units, but with the three phase Orb300, the load on the generator is distributed evenly across the phases enabling more efficient running.

The Orb300 comes with two charging options, a 125amp three phase supply, which means you’ll be fully charged and ready to go again in just 4hrs, or a 63amp three phase option which offers a 7hr charging time.

UK’S FIRST EV CHARGING TOWABLE BATTERY

In 2025, we plan to upgrade our Orb300 with EV charging capabilities. This is truly a game changer in the world of mobile battery power. For the first time, film and TV Unit Managers will be able to take the battery to any public EV charging station, plug in and be fully charged from flat in just 6 hours using a 22kw DC fast charger.

The Cost of kWh’s

The cost of our local public EV charging station as of January 2025 is 54p per kWh (this can be 80% less if you use a local supply ) Looking at our generator usage data at the very worst case scenario the cost to charge the Orb300 is comparable to the cost of refueling a 60kVA generator with HVO. But once EV charging is available there will be no need for additional generators, fuel bowsers, HVO deliveries and certainly no need to burn any more fossil fuels. So you’re quids in however you look at it.

Availability of EV charging bays

We appreciate not all EV charging bays will be suitable for parking a trailer, no matter how good at reversing you are, however there are more and more suitable EV charging points popping up all the time. As of October 2024, there were 71,459 public EV charging points in the UK and the projection is the UK's EV charging network will continue growing, with an estimated 150,000 charging points by 2030.

We’re feeling positive with the way things are going, we’re seeing more and more EV vans and cars on the roads, new charging points are being installed all over and now we have the technology to transport significant off-grid power to wherever it’s needed without the need for a generator.
